Thelma and Louise came to our branch on the 3rd October 2024. They’re both female, and around 3 years old.
Unfortunately, these young ladies had been abandoned – kind members of the public were able to find Thelma and Louise huddled together, and the next day, Wilma was also found nearby and taken to the vets. Though they were found in different areas, it was clear that the dogs recognised each other, and were possibly dumped together. Whilst all the dogs were in rough shape, entirely matted and nervous, it was obvious from the start that there was something seriously wrong with Thelma. She refused to use her back legs at all, throwing her back end into the air and walking on her front two legs to avoid using her paws.
We rushed her to the vet, where x-rays were taken, and it was discovered that her hip was fractured; the injury was so extensive that the bones were completely separated. She must have been in awful pain, and sadly we think she may have had the injury quite a while for her to come up with a new way of walking. Louise stayed right by her side the whole time, whilst Wilma watched on – they were all very brave. As if that wasn’t bad enough, the vets noted that there was bruising on Thelma’s stomach, and tied into her horrific injuries, they speculate that Thelma had been kicked.
An ideal situation would be for all three to go together – but we do realise that would be a big ask for someone to take them all on! Louise and Thelma would be good together as they provide each other with reassurance, whereas Wilma needs to rule the roost so could live with a submissive dog.
These girls bark a lot and are not house-trained, so will need a patient home and someone who is willing to train them.
We’ve got a JustGiving page open for these beautiful girls, and have posted videos of them on our Instagram (@rspcalincoln) and Facebook (RSPCA Lincolnshire Mid, North East and Lincoln) on the 19th and 26th October.
