More information

When Minnie came to us at the end of March 2024, she was very underweight. We don’t know the exact ins-and-outs of her previous life, but this poor pooch now needs a patient owner who can give her the TLC she needs. She will reward you with an ever-wagging tail and plenty of love in return!

Someone experienced with nervous dogs or the breed would be ideal, as Minnie is unsure around men so she needs time before she will feel more comfortable around them, though she’s doing much better with this than when we first took her in. She came from a household with other dogs, but we don’t think that she was thriving there – she needs to be the only dog in a household with no young children.

Minnie has improved massively and is no longer underweight, as she’s been on a tasty salmon-based food to build her back up again. She did have skin issues on her tail and ear flaps – and this is also improving too. She is coming on in leaps and bounds in terms of progress, and is really lovely with a heart of gold!

Minnie is a crossbreed – we think she is a Bullboxer – a mix between a Boxer and a Staffordshire Bull Terrier. Some things to look out for with this breed are:

  • The staffy inclusion can be seen through a need for companionship – and as such, Minnie cannot be left alone for too long as she also has separation anxiety issues.
  • If not properly socialised and trained, these dogs can be difficult to control around other dogs – Minnie needs time and patience as well as training, as at the moment she’s a little unsure.
  • Be aware that improperly trained dogs may pull on the lead, and due to Minnie’s size, you need to keep a firm hold on her when out walking.
  • Bullboxers are very intelligent and able to learn a variety of tricks, so with the right approach, Minnie will absolutely thrive!
  • The terrier inclusion means that these dogs have a high prey drive, so Minnie would not be suitable for a home with small furries or other dogs as this would probably be stressful for her.

There is a video of Minnie that’s on our Facebook page and Instagram on the 12th June 2024 (RSPCA Lincolnshire Mid & Lincoln and @rspcalincoln)
