When Minnie came to us at the end of March 2024, she was a very different dog to the one you see today.
We don’t know the exact ins-and-outs of her previous life, but this poor pooch needs a patient owner who can give her the care and affection she needs. She will reward you with an ever-wagging tail and plenty of love in return!
At first, Minnie was suffering from a skin condition that necessitated medicated baths, but as you’ll see from her pictures, she’s all better now! She also was very wary and afraid when she first came to our care, but is slowly getting more used to strangers, public spaces and other aspects of life.
She has previously been rehomed and returned through no fault of her own after her adopter’s circumstances changed – Minnie needs someone at home with her for the majority of the time as she has separation anxiety. She’s now with a fosterer as she wasn’t coping well in the kennel environment, and they are doing brilliantly to get her used to strangers.
Minnie needs to be the only dog in a home, preferably with no children. She was originally very unsure of men, but is now learning to trust again and her current fosters say that her only worry is which treat she’ll be getting next!
Minnie is a crossbreed – we think she is a Bullboxer – a mix between a Boxer and a Staffordshire Bull Terrier. Some things to look out for with this breed are:
- The staffy inclusion can be seen through a need for companionship – and as such, Minnie cannot be left alone for too long as she also has separation anxiety issues.
- If not properly socialised and trained, these dogs can be difficult to control when interacting with other dogs – Minnie needs time and patience as well as training, as at the moment she’s a little unsure of other animals.
- Be aware that improperly trained dogs may pull on the lead, and due to Minnie’s size, you need to keep a firm hold on her when out walking.
- Bullboxers are very intelligent and able to learn a variety of tricks, so with the right approach, Minnie will absolutely thrive!
- The terrier inclusion means that these dogs have a high prey drive, so Minnie would not be suitable for a home with small furries or other dogs.
