Bruce came into RSPCA care on the 20th June and came to the RSPCA Lincolnshire Mid, North East and Lincoln branch a few days after. His previous home had been turbulent, with 2 other dogs – we were told that there was a fight between them, and Bruce as well as another GSD were left in the garden to fend for themselves.
Poor Bruce was in a sorry state as you can see by the picture, he weighed only 17kg – the ideal weight for a German Shepherd is 35kg. He also had issues with his stomach bacteria from being neglected, but luckily anti- and probiotics soon had him feeling better.
Our kennel facilities slowly got to know Bruce and realised he was probably a Malinois mix, meaning that he was a working line dog with high exersize, stimulation and care needs. Unfortunately, he was also struggling to cope with the hustle and bustle of life in kennels, but luckily our wonderful fosterers stepped in to offer him a home.
Unfortunately due to his previous environment Bruce was very frightened of other dogs, his first reaction to seeing them was to pull on the lead and try to make himself look like a threat to prevent himself from being attacked, but he absolutely was a gentleman in every other regard.
Bruce had by now had a few visits from potential adopters but unfortunately during their meetings for one reason or another they decided he wasn’t the right fit for them. We were so excited to receive any sort of interest in Bruce, and we are so happy to say that he was rehomed on the 26th September 2025, after 428 days in RSPCA care.
Large dogs tend to spend longer in RSPCA care, so please consider adopting if you are able, fostering, donating, volunteering or supporting the RSPCA to find more loving homes for animals in need.
