Become a shop volunteer

We currently have three wonderful Charity Shops operating across our branch area. These shops are fundamental in our ability to continue to care for animals, and are extremely important in being visible within our local area. If you would like to be out and about during the day to meet new people, maybe you would consider volunteering in one of our three Charity Shops!

Our shop volunteers allow our shops to open, by undertaking tasks including manning the tills, sorting through stock, serving customers and completing any other tasks as they arise. Not only is this a valuable role in terms of enabling our shops to open and therefore raising money for our branch, volunteering within our shops will also allow you to meet other like-minded individuals and customers, as well as gaining real-life experience on a shop floor which can further develop your own opportunities.

Shop Volunteer

“I love my Wednesdays working with the shop manager Victoria and her team, in fact it feels as though we are a working family that have come together through our absolute love of animals.

Whether I’m knee deep sorting donations, arranging and displaying bric a brac or steaming baskets full of garments, the fact that what I’m doing helps to make money for the local branch of the RSPCA motivates me. Knowing I have helped gives me a great sense of pleasure, and a feel good factor. Volunteering is so worth it – however many hours you can offer – there’s a lovely friendly team here to work with, lots of laughs with a variety of jobs – no one day is the same. I’ve gained new skills whilst volunteering, which is great for anyone’s CV! It’s such a friendly uplifting place to work, who wouldn’t be tempted to volunteer too?”

Previous retail experience is not necessary as you will be provided with training and experience within our shops

Application process

Please download and complete a general volunteer application form (or collect a hard copy from one of our shops!) and send your completed form to our area retail manager at kdrew@rspca-lincoln.org.uk or hand them in to the shop manager at the relevant shop. At that point, you will be invited to come in for an informal chat with the manager at your specified shop about volunteering with us. If once you have spoken to us about the role, and you would like to proceed with your application, we will request your two references. You will also need to arrange to provide a passport sized photograph for your ID badge which you will need to wear when volunteering in the shops – this helps our customers know who they can approach if they need assistance.

Once your positive references have come back and you have been approved as a shop volunteer, you will be sent a link to complete online Health and Safety training and a medical questionnaire for you to complete. Once you have completed your health and safety training, and you have submitted your medical questionnaire, our shop manager will contact you to arrange a start date!
